The amount of caffeine in coffee and tea can vary widely depending on a lot of factors. But according to the Mayo Clinic, an 8-ounce cup of brewed coffee contains around 100 milligrams of caffeine. (Espresso and instant coffee have less.) By comparison, an 8-ounce cup of black tea has around 50 milligrams of caffeine.
Based purely on its composition, coffee should win hands down: a cup of tea has about half the dose (40 milligrams) of the stimulant caffeine that you would find in a standard cup of brewed filter coffee (80 to 115 milligrams).
Tea drinkers will be happy to know that a cup of tea has about 42 mg of the good stuff on average — so about 50% less caffeine than coffee.

If you're looking to energise your body quickly for a hectic working morning, coffee can help you much better than tea. But if you need a caffeine-fix that relaxes you and supplies your body with healing antioxidants, then go for black tea.
Also coffee is more acidic than tea, so if you have stomach or digestive issues you may tolerate tea better.
